MINISTER OF STATE FOR RAILWAYS, SHRI RAJEN GOHAIN TAKES PART IN SHRAMDAAN AS PART OF NATIONWIDE SWACHHTA HI SEWA CAMPAIGN

The Union Minister of State for Railways, Shri Rajen Gohain took part in a Shramdaan (physical participation) programme at Guwahati railway station this morning. The Minister, accompanied by senior N. F. Railway officials including the General Manager Shri Chahatey Ram, undertook cleaning of station premises as part of the nationwide Swachhata hi Sewa programme launched o­n 15thSeptember. After participating in the Shramdaan Shri Rajen Gohain said that Indian Railway has taken Swachhata as a mission, and every effort is being made towards achieving that goal.

Along with the rest of the country, Indian Railway has also participated in this Swachhata hi Sewacampaign in a big way. In N. F. Railway, a massive cleanliness drive over all the five divisions began o­n September 15 last with NF Railway General Manager Chahatey Ram along with other senior officers offering ‘Shramdaan’ at Kamakhya Railway station in presence of officers and employees. Such ‘Shramdaan’ was also carried out in the divisions.

To build up awareness o­n cleanliness, N. F. Railway has engaged various media to disseminate information o­n importance of observing cleanliness in railway platforms, trains and premises. A video message involving Assamese movie stars - Jayanta Das & Barasha Rani Bishoya – has been made to motivate people to observe cleanliness.

It may be mentioned that the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called upon the nation to begin a campaign, Swachhata Hi Sewa (Cleanliness is Service) from 15th September 2017 to Gandhi Jayanti o­n 2nd October 2017. During his Mann Ki Baat address o­n August 27, 2017, he called upon people to create an environment of cleanliness in the entire country so that the coming 2nd October, the third anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission and Gandhi Jayanti, can be celebrated in a befitting manner. He urged all NGOs, schools, colleges, social, cultural and political leaders, corporates, government officials, Collectors and sarpanches, to accelerate Swachhta activities during the period.
